Pretty in Print with Dhoti Pant.
Ever since human beings came into existence, there has been just one major complaint between the sexes. You got that right. "Understanding". Men swear that they fail to understand their Women and women complain that they fail to understand their Men. Well, when does this usually happen or should I say when does one realise the lack of understanding between them? So many people are frustrated in their relationships. They either love their partner or are completely done with it, the love has died. And when there is tension they do not know what to do to make things better. Without the awareness that we are supposed to be different, men and women are at odds with each other. We usually become angry or frustrated with the opposite sex because we have forgotten this important truth that we are meant to be two different creatures.
Falling in love is always magical. It feels eternal, as if love will last forever. We naively believe that somehow we are exempt from the problems our parents had, free from the odds that love will die, assured that it is meant to be and that we are destined to live happily ever after.
But as the magic recedes and daily life takes over, it emerges that men continue to expect women to think and react like men, and women expect men to feel and behave like women. Without clear awareness of our differences, we do not take time to understand and respect each other.
With the best and most loving intentions love continues to die. Somehow the problems creep in. The resentments build. Communication breaks down and mistrust increases. Rejection and repression result. The magic of love is lost. And hence comes the complaint about Understanding.
People who have tried to understand the opposite sex and not really expect them to be like themselves have always led a really happy life together. The one like fairy tales. And need I say, they are the happiest couples we see and envy.
